I’ve recently become a big fan of contemporary Chinese art. Especially the paintings. In the last year, I saw two fantastic survey exhibits (one at the SFMOMA and the other at the Berkeley Museum of Art), and have since been devouring websites and art catalogues. Even the hubby, who likes to mock the artistic viewing experience, came away impressed by what he saw.

I find it increasingly difficult to find art that balances the artists’ historical/political perspective with an aesthetically pleasing style.  Why is it that so-called political art in the western world increasingly sacrifices the sacred for the profane?
